When the sounds of the outside world became “all too much,” and you just needed to escape to your little Beatle world, here was the item to help. Slide on your Beatles Headphones and drift away!

The Beatles Headphones were manufactured by Koss Electronics, 2227 North 31st Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1966. The headphones came in mono, were made of blue plastic, and had a Beatles graphic insert sticker - either paper or metal - on each earpiece. The item was shipped in a hinged 8’’x8’’x4” box with a warranty card and an insert that read: “Use The Beatles Own Listening System.” The headphones were based on the standard Koss SP/3 model, which was the first stereo headphones manufactured. These “beatLephones” were the first set of signature headphones ever sold on the market. The headphones came with an adjustable headband, and the list price was $29.95.
The box read: “Koss Electronics Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A. Manufactured under exclusive license from FOMISA, LUGAND, SWITZERLAND.”

One of their marketing pieces read: “SELL THE BEATLES OWN LISTENING SYSTEM – beatLephones - Stereo headphones with full-color photos of the Beatles on each earcup. And inside, a unique stereo sound that dramatizes stereo records like no other listening system can. Beatlephones offer personalized listening. Big sound for those who want to hear it: quiet for those who don’t...even in the same room.

Fomisa, Lugana, Switzerland
The NEMS license agreement was with Fomisa. The date of the agreement for the manufacturing license was February 1966 for ‘Beatle phones.” Formisa subleased this item to Koss in the US. Formisa had its merchandising license included in contracts supplied to Apple Corps Limited on August 8, 1968, by the firm Wright, Webb & Company.
